The purpose of a sketch a day is just to do it - sketch! It doesn't matter if it is an involved sketch or if it is a simple contour or gesture drawing. There are no rules except to sketch each day.

Life parameters can dictate the time investment, but a sketch a day commitment is designed to elevate the personal priority of sketching ... to enforce sketching. Making it into a "resolution" validates the activity (invests it with a bit of a challenge even!) and defends against competing demands. The sketch a day is designed for practice - to reinforce basic skills, and to provide daily contemplation on the issues of two dimensional representation.

Several of us are doing a sketch a day, and I would enjoy hearing from anyone else who decides to join in. We share our efforts, support each other, keep each other honest and... hopefully we'll have some fun doing this!

Our younger dog Mindy done in pen. She looks like a hound from the side and a boxer from straight ahead; she's a Mountain Cur.
She should bite me for this one...

  1. Is Mindy shiny black? She looks that way from the way you handled her chest and front legs. Nice, lively pen work. It looks like you captured what I imagine her personality to be!

  2. Also, I love the way you draw paws!

  3. I can read Mindy's mind.....she's wondering if pens are good to eat? Or if being drawn is the lead-up to a walk?

  4. No, Mindy isn't black... the pen is, but really I should have been able to convey her gold color anyway. Her head is too big too... such an amateur mistake! Like I said, she should have bitten me for this one, but I wasn't going to do something else just to put up a sketch for the day!!
