This is a bag of brussel sprouts. I'm not happy with this one; there is not sufficient feel of a plausible weight and substance to the sprouts. They don't pile on one another and bulge the bag where it presses on them.
Sometimes there's not enough time in the day so I rush it, which leaves me less disgusted than when I put some time in to something that stinks anyway. One of the unfortunate effects of a sketch/drawing a day commitment is that if it's a "stinky fish" it still gets posted!
The purpose of a sketch a day is just to do it - sketch! It doesn't matter if it is an involved sketch or if it is a simple contour or gesture drawing. There are no rules except to sketch each day.
Life parameters can dictate the time investment, but a sketch a day commitment is designed to elevate the personal priority of sketching ... to enforce sketching. Making it into a "resolution" validates the activity (invests it with a bit of a challenge even!) and defends against competing demands. The sketch a day is designed for practice - to reinforce basic skills, and to provide daily contemplation on the issues of two dimensional representation.
Several of us are doing a sketch a day, and I would enjoy hearing from anyone else who decides to join in. We share our efforts, support each other, keep each other honest and... hopefully we'll have some fun doing this!

You really take on some VERY challenging subjects!!! I love the way you did the mesh bag - maybe it's that the sprouts themselves seem kind of flat, like you got into their pattern instead of their roundness?
ReplyDeleteIt's true there's no effort to give them roundness, (I started with the upper right and the intention was to do an unworked contour and practice with going around and keeping the sizes so the test would be how things met up) but I think that if I had done something better with the bag there could have been a better feel of things held together by the bag but pushing out on it...
ReplyDeleteI'll Never get around to getting back to redoing all the things I could redo and learn more from! Redoing things right off seems boring and I'm still trying to stay motivated some nights. Maybe toward the end of the year...
