The purpose of a sketch a day is just to do it - sketch! It doesn't matter if it is an involved sketch or if it is a simple contour or gesture drawing. There are no rules except to sketch each day.

Life parameters can dictate the time investment, but a sketch a day commitment is designed to elevate the personal priority of sketching ... to enforce sketching. Making it into a "resolution" validates the activity (invests it with a bit of a challenge even!) and defends against competing demands. The sketch a day is designed for practice - to reinforce basic skills, and to provide daily contemplation on the issues of two dimensional representation.

Several of us are doing a sketch a day, and I would enjoy hearing from anyone else who decides to join in. We share our efforts, support each other, keep each other honest and... hopefully we'll have some fun doing this!

  1. Very nice - you're really getting a lot of art done down there!

  2. Um, yeah... well. There's a story there, too; I kept feeling like I hadn't missed posting (sometimes in the wee hours, but not totally skipped!) but I kept falling farther behind. It was like some discouraging time warp thing...
Finally, I went back and checked dates, and twice I'd put up a new post and repeated the date from the day before, and then when it turned to July, I kept on dating them June... so I've fixed it, and it suddenly looks like I've caught all up! Only MY time was warped.

  3. I don't know, it sounds like you are getting all your days in.....another approach tho would have been to number the days 1 to 365; then you'd have no clue how close to up to date you were and neither would anyone else and you could be in the moment.

Can we look forward to colored fireworks pictures tomorrow?
